Swim for Life Program
YMCA launched the Swim for Life program in 2008. The program combines the philosophy of Aspire, Act, Achieve and Inspire as a means to not only train and employ indigenous participants at the YMCA Port Hedland Pools, but to further encourage the participation levels each year with a view to expand to other towns with indigenous Australians within the community.
In 2009, YMCA was acknowledged with the following awards through its work with the Swim for Life Program:
WA Parks and Leisure Australia – Inclusive and Connected Communities 1st place
2009 National Parks and Leisure Australia – Inclusive and Connected Communities – Certificate of commendation
2009 Australian Rural & Outback Awards – Semi Finalist: Business, Training and Employment Category
We would like to thank our project partners including:
The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations
Town of Port Hedland
